Websites! Where do I start?
If you have an existing Website, you may have noticed that sometimes things can get a bit technical! For those of you who know the Internet very well, you may agree that it’s difficult to look past the jargon, mainly because it’s a very involving subject. But fear not! Let us help you with our tips for planning the perfect Website…
Choices, choices
In some ways, planning the perfect Website is like browsing for a new car. It’s a complex market and you may want to research before you start test driving, or you maybe the type of person who trusts the car dealership for an expert opinion? One thing’s for sure, you don’t even leave your house until you have some idea what your car will be needed for. So in the same way we try to ask the most-simple questions first; “Why do you want a Website?” Sure it sounds silly, but you will be surprised how may Clients stop and stare when presented with this one.
I want a fast one
So lets stick with the car theme a little longer. Everyone would like a sports car, they look cool, they’re fast, and most of all – your going to attract attention. So you approach the dealership with every intention of driving away in a love machine. Trouble is they cost a bomb and don’t have any space for your shopping! In the same token you may see a Website that blows you away (full of animation and nice images) but it may not be practical for the type of visitors you want to attract.
Priority of messaging
The best advice we can give is to think about the people you communicate with. Imagine you’re a customer surfing your new Website. What would you want to see? What is a priority and what is none essential? What do you want to achieve? This way your target audience controls your content, and you’ll be sure to connect with the visitor.
X Factors
Sometimes we get asked to create a Website that will ‘WOW’ visitors, and whilst we enjoy designing the most stunning sites possible, it’s always advisable to back up a good-looking site with some equally powerful content. If text is poorly written or out of date, it can be a real switch off for a visitor, no matter how great the site looks. So to give your site the X Factor, we suggest concise and interesting content that is planned well in advance, and updated regularly.
Hung up on technology
Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, or should we say a worrying thing! The Internet is complicated, but it can become over-complicated if too much emphasis is placed on technology. Our advice is; please the visitor and make the site work for them. If you worry too much about how it all works, and what’s ‘under the hood’ then you may loose focus of the ultimate aim. We want to build websites for you AND your visitors
Driving Ms Daisy
Many of the Websites we are asked to design, have existed in a previous format. We are approached to fix issues that are causing problems or frustrating visitors. If your Website feels like your driving with Ms Daisy, we have what it takes to step it up a gear (or two!) And if you’ve set your heart on that sports car, why not look around our show room?
